ELPIDA, Greek for hope
ELPIDA, Greek for hope, is the name of this beautiful place above the fishing village of Mochlos on Crete, directly above the sea. Three special holiday homes have been built here. One of them is used privately, the other two can be rented.

Elpida 3, the large guest house, has a spacious bedroom with a 160 x 200 centimetre double bed and space for a cot, a spacious bathroom with shower, a separate toilet and a large, well-equipped kitchen-living room with a separate pantry.

Elpida 2, the small guest house, offers two bedrooms (one with a 160 x 200 centimetre double bed, the other with two 90 x 200 centimetre single beds) and a bathroom with separate toilet. It can be rented in addition to the large guest house as needed, optionally with only one bedroom. In total, the two guest houses can be comfortably inhabited by six adults and one or two children. There is a large terrace in front of the houses and a pergola between the houses.

Elpida is equipped with a photovoltaic system. We produce our own electricity and are not connected to the local power grid. But this also means responsible use of electricity.
The houses do not have air conditioning. Due to the shading - all glass fronts are north-facing - and the refreshing sea breeze, there is a pleasant climate even in the height of summer.
Cooking is done with gas, all lamps are equipped with LED bulbs. If you want to use the washing machine in the private house, it is best to do so in the morning hours. There are no egg cookers and no TVs. The breathtaking view is the best film anyway.
ELPIDA also has provisions for the cooler seasons: the houses are very well insulated and in the large guest house there is a cast-iron wood-burning stove that is wonderful for heating.
Of course, WiFi is available in all the houses.
Prices depending on the number of persons: high season from € 100, low season from € 85, plus 40 final cleaning.

Mochlos is a small, tranquil fishing village with around 120 inhabitants on the north-east coast of Crete, situated between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. It can be reached by car from Heraklion airport in about 1:20 hours. There are several tavernas, a café and a pizzeria along the small promenade. There are two souvenir shops, an olive wood handicraft shop and a small supermarket.
The village has a long history. The Minoan people settled here in the second millennium BC, and there are still some archaeologically interesting excavations to visit. The small island in front was once connected to the mainland and broke off after an earthquake. In good weather, you can swim the 180 metres or take a boat across.

The "house beach" (seven minutes' walk downhill, fifteen minutes' walk uphill) with a mixture of sand and gravel can be found just below Elpida. The "village beach" has a narrow strip of sand and some sheltered bathing spots between the rocks can be found around Taverna Bogazi.
You won't find any wide sandy beaches in Mochlos, which is why the fishing village has managed to retain its tranquillity and serenity. In spring and autumn, the place is tranquillity itself. Those who do not want to do without a large sandy beach will find one in nearby Kavousi at "Tholos Beach".

There are great shopping opportunities all year round at the markets of Agios Nikolaos or Ierapetra. There you can buy only local products, wonderful fruit and vegetables, cheese, herbs and honey at very reasonable prices.
